Abstract

This panel comprises four papers that address the organisational responses of political parties to their changing social and political environments. Specifically, it considers several party organisational dimensions, including finance, membership, intra-party democracy, and overall heuristic models of party organisational change. Three of the four papers are strongly empirical and draw on a variety of data sources, including a new cross-national political party database (PPDB) that takes in multiple dimensions of organisation across 20 contemporary democracies and more than 140 individual parties.
