Abstract

The process of globalization, which can be thought of as the widening, intensifying, speeding up, and growing impact of world-wide interconnectedness, increasingly blurs the boundaries between domestic matters and global affairs. Although states arguably remain the central actors in global politics, they face increasing pressures of civil society, multinational corporations, and international agencies and organizations. How does this global system of governance affect state behavior? This panel will consist of papers addressing this question in various ways, investigating the relationships between the state and different transnational actors.
