Regional Elections in Comparative Perspective

Abstract

Even if most of European countries have directly elected regional parliaments, election studies mostly focus on the analysis of the European, national and local levels. Regional elections have often been neglected, especially in a comparative perspective. This panel intends to gather scholars that analyse regional elections in a comparative perspective across countries or across regions within a state. Since the emerging literature focuses mainly on the ‘demand’ side of regional election (electoral participation, party choice, etc.), we are particularly interested in papers analysing the ‘supply’ side, i.e. the impact of party strategies (party competition, electoral alliance, ideology, candidates, party name, etc.) on electoral results in regional elections and in how far these strategies have a differentiated effect in different regions
