This roundtable will take policy theories to the next level: identifying the state of the art in policy theories, their empirical advances, their overall application to real world politics and policymaking, and the extent to which these insights ‘travel’ well across time and space. The roundtable focuss on scientific advance in a way that can be pitched to practitioners in policymaking and offer scholars new ways to describe their insights to a wider audience. We advance the study of policy and politics by drawing out the practical insights from ‘state of the art’ policy theories. All papers will be written in a way that combines scientific sophistication with accessibility to practitioner audiences. This roundtable is an extension of a workshop on the same theme and summarizes findings for a forthcoming special issue in Policy & Politics.
