This panel will examine how victims perceive transitional justice processes. Among other issues, how a top-down approach can foster victims' disempowerment; on the other hand, what effect the inclusion of moral and collective reparations can have on victims perception of justice and reconciliation. It will also deal with how different forms of evidence gathering and witness testimony recount and reshape the understanding of atrocities committed. The panel will also explore political apologies, how they are expressed and what other measures are usually attached to them.
