Despite the fact that the concept of depoliticisation has underpinned several major contemporary debates concerning (inter alia) the management of the economy, the 'logic of discipline', the delegation of tasks to agencies, boards and commissions, blame-games and blame-boomerangs, the 'life and death of democracy', the regulatory state and 'rethinking governance' the tools of contemporary governance the literature on this concept remains embryonic. It is in this context that this panel aims to bring together a range of scholars to explore the concept from a variety of perspective and sub-fields of the discipline. This panel will therefore form the first scholarly cross-national arena dedicated exclusively and explicitly to the concept of depoliticisation and will use this vantage point as a position from which to explore a range of salient issues and themes within the field of political science, public administration, public law, governance and public policy. The aim being to develop the analytical traction and leverage of the concept in order to sustain the production of theoretically informed policy-relevant research.
