Abstract

This panel brings together new, innovative research that applies various social network approaches to environmental issues. Across Europe and the world, societies are grappling with cascading ecological crises, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and air and water pollution. The global climate strikes, divestment movements, Extinction Rebellion and other new social movements are emerging to engage these issues, alongside more established environmental organizations like Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, or the World Wildlife Fund. Social network analysis offers a valuable and diverse range of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods analytical tools that help us better understand processes of eco-political mobilization, contestation, and social change.
