In recent years Brazil has been playing an important role not only in the South America region but also in the global domain. The Brazilian foreign policy strategies illustrate this double actuation. By one hand the Brazilian role on the Unasur, Mercosur as well as in Haiti and Honduras, and by the other hand, the Brazilian participation in forums like IBSA, WTO, G20, the stake on the United Nations Security Council, and the dialogue with the EU and the US. By this way the Brazil international identity has also suffered some transformations. So how we can define Brazil concerning the international power hierarchy? This paper will try to explore the theoretical approaches to debate the current Brazilian position on the international system, which is also marked by a trend of transformations.
