Abstract

The human causes for the global warming has been questioned by the conservative movement in the United States. The so called New Right in which the Tea Party is and contemporary expression, is an central actor inside the Republican Party. Parallel to strengthening of the Tea Party, the climate changes has been an influential theme and a main issue at the arguments and political position from a important part of the civil society that are open and willing to change in favor of new and more sustainable energy matrix. The ethanol in particular, brings a regional element to the debate, involving the political pressure (from the local state producers, especially from the Southern States) and also the lobby groups in favor and against it. In this paper we intend to discuss the perception around global warming and the biofuels inside the U.S. Congress where we find those political polarizations.
