The main aim of this paper is to study the conditions that are necessary for a VAA to be efficient and successful by comparing a VAA that was used for the 2013 election for the Albanian Parliament with a VAA that was used for the 2012 elections for the Greek parliament. The Greek VAA received much more attention from the public than the Albanian one. Voters in both countries were expected to actively seek advice due to the crisis of both political party systems. Both party systems displayed other similarities, e.g. the presence of anti-system parties with radical agendas eager to challenge the status-quo. We present differences and similarities between the two countries regarding the form of democracy, the political system and we try to understand the impact of these differences on the popularity and success of the VAAs in these two countries.
