Although most scholars agree that the polarization of a party system is of vital importance for the functioning and the performance of a democratic system, there is only a limited amount of studies producing comparative data about the degree of polarization in the different countries. Using data from the euprofiler this paper discusses possibilities to measure and explain the polarization of the party systems in the different countries.
