Abstract

Racism shapes our everyday practices and structures dominant discourses as well as influential institutions. Based on that understanding we taught a course that tried to analyse our entanglements with racism and its intersections with other power relations. The aim was to create awareness for these entanglements and power relations and to encourage the students to rethink common practices. This paper first presents the structure of the course, and the methods used to teach its content. The second section of the paper reports and analyses the reactions and comments of participating students from the course evaluation, an additional questionnaire, and the experience delivered from the lecturer´s perspective as well. Finally, the paper will end with conclusions on how to teach the topic of structural racism and suggestions for further courses.
