Abstract

The analysis of citizen’s political behavior and their forms of participation is a well-developed area of political science. It has produced different depictions of democratic citizens and advanced their role on the functioning of democracy, but it has not discouraged alternative theoretical descriptions based on their potentialities. Which are the forms and numbers that contribute to legitimize a democracy and improve its quality? Which are considered disruptive -if any? Present works, in the context of the economic and political crisis, identify at least four types of citizens measuring their institutional confidence and political interest: deferential/cives/critical/disaffected. This work wants to analyze its normative expectations and its influence the depiction of the average (ordinary, lay, normal) citizen.
