Daily philosophers : a case study of a collaboration between journalists and researchers around the

Abstract

Abstract: We are analyzing the production conditions and the results of an original collaboration between journalists and researchers. One day a year, dozens of philosophers take the place of journalists to design an issue of the daily newspaper Liberation. We make this assumption : the fact that this collaboration takes place in a space dedicated to the practice of journalism destabilizes the philosophers. They are professors, authors and they suddenly find themselves having to deal with the deadlines and the specific constraints and division of labor of a newspaper. We will show how this change leads them to perform their work in the newspaper around a small number of practices, which are supposed to be agreed by journalists. We will analyze the signatures of the philosophers ,namely how they present themselves and how that defines their social status. We will then present the editorial rules that constrain the social scientists when they are writing for Liberation. Finally, we shall analyze the « journalistic » work of these philosophers as a compromise between philosophy and journalism. Keywords: philosophers, journalists, collaboration, temporality, context.
