Abstract

The dominant liberal-procedural paradigm in democracy studies is too narrow. Decades of critical theory has shown that most of the picture of democracy in the world is missed as a result of this framing constraint. The purpose of this multi-authored article is, then, to chart a more expansive course for studying democracy which, we hope, may in time spawn a pluralistic paradigm in democracy research.
