Abstract

Ripstein''s book offer a compelling account of Kant''s legal and political philosophy and in doing so advances, as a live philosophical position, a number of claims that distinguish this position from, and throw into relief, positions widely held in contemporary political philosophy. This paper addresses Ripstein''s argument in relation to two related concepts ''athority'' and ''coercion'' in order to question the Kantian turn that he proposes.
