Abstract

This chapter depart from an analysis of current anti-corruption policies targeting women of international organizations such as UNODC. The aim is to synthesize results, take a step back, and reflect on what is missing in existing policies and recommendations. One conclusion reached is that, in contexts with high levels of corruption, it may be most useful to focus on a few areas that affect women the hardest, such as sexual forms of corruption and corruption in sectors like maternity healthcare and childbirth. A stricter focus could help to pinpoint the mechanisms at work and improve understanding of preventive strategies. Another conclusion is that, in contexts where corruption exists but is not pandemic, it may be most useful to highlight types of corruption that affect the status of women indirectly, such as corruption in the economic sector.
