Abstract

European democracy relies on reliable sources from the educational field, particularly on topics that have been targets of disinformation such as human rights and sexual diversity. In this context, data sharing is a crucial tool for combatting misinformation by supporting the advancement of multidisciplinary research and increasing the availability of trustworthy data. However, scholars in educational sciences lack training in data sharing practices, which prevents the release of sociological data about sexual minorities that would be valuable in countering disinformation, societal prejudice and illiberal political tendencies in the European Union. This paper presents a bibliometric-systematic literature review that aims to confirm a research gap regarding disinformation and sexual minority education in relation to data sharing and data accuracy between 2016 and 2023. The article also explores how a broader availability of data on sexual diversity can strengthen inclusive democratic debates in schools that address disinformation and educational political differences in the European Union. Finally, the article suggests further contributions to enhance information management in projects funded by EU programmes such as Erasmus+, thereby reinforcing access to trustworthy data that support fair and democratic educational policies.
