Abstract

Over the last decade or so, the Democratic Peace has spurred an enormous amount of studies, both quantitative and qualitative. The debate has been extended to the study of international organizations and interdepedence and their respective impact on peace and democracy. Moreover, studies on regime type and civil war, on democratization and political violence, and on regime type and military intervention have been linked to the research agenda. As a result, a multitude of isolated findings has emerged. Whereas some scholars assume that these findings cumulate to a virtuous circle of mutually reinforcing relations between democracy, international organizations and interdependence, others have pointed to inherent tensions or antinomies. This section is designed to bring together scholars working on different aspects of the Democratic Peace. Moreover, dialogue between quantitative and qualitative methodologies is encouraged. In particular, the section aims to assemble contributions on the following topics: · State of the Art: What do we know about the Demorcratic Peace? · Are Democracies more Peaceful? New Findings on Democracies‘ Foreign Policy and Internal Stability · Democracy, International Organization and the Peaceful Settlement of International Conflict · Democracy, Interdependence, and Peace · Antinomies of the Democratic Peace: Thinking about the Unintended Consequences of Interdemocratic Collaboration · Democratization and Political Violence in and between States · Case Studies Approaching the Democratic Peace Paper proposals should include · Full Authors Name · Title · Institutional Affiliation and Address · A Short Abstract (150 Words) Submissions should be made electronically to both Andreas Hasenclever [hasenclever@hsfk.de] and Wolfgang Wagner [wolfgang.wagner@soz.uni-frankfurt.de].
