Abstract

Peace research has been extended to the study of international organizations and interdependence and their respective relations to peace and democracy. Moreover, research on regime type and civil war, on democratization and political violence, and on regime type and military intervention have been linked to Democratic Peace research. As a result, Democratic Peace research has increasingly been characterized by a multitude of isolated findings. Whereas some scholars assume that these findings cumulate to a virtuous circle of mutually reinforcing relations between democracy, international organizations and interdependence, others have pointed to inherent tensions or antinomies. This section is designed to bring together scholars working on different aspects of the Kantian triad as well as between quantitative and qualitative methodologies of carrying out Democratic Peace research.
