WE WELCOME ALL PANEL AND PAPER PROPOSALS ON LAW AND POLITICS. BELOW ARE SOME SPECIFIC IDEAS FROM THE SECTION CHAIRS.
Is modern politics becoming more and more judicialized? In what way are key political conflicts being driven more and more in front of judges for decision-making rather than being resolved in parliaments, public debates or other political institutions? As more and more issues such as the death penalty, same-sex marriage or social welfare policies are appealed all the way to supreme judicial bodies, the question becomes, in what way has this process changed the nature of liberal democracy? This section will feature papers examining the intersection of law and politics. Panel topics can include (a) the judicialization of politics, (b) contemporary trends in constitutional politics and judicial review, (c) memory and identities in the courts, (d) international and EU law.
