Abstract

This section welcomes panels and papers that engage with the central themes and debates on the changing nature of making and managing public policy in the age of public governance. The section welcomes contributions across a range of disciplines that tackle the issues of designing, orchestrating, and steering public action in the changing context of public policy marked by increasing socio-economic and political complexity at the local, national, or international level. Suggested panels may deal with the issues and challenges of combining hierarchical, market-based, and network modes of governance for achieving public purposes and for delivering public services in contemporary societies. Panelists may choose to focus on the policy-making process; policy implementation and service delivery; policy analysis and evaluation; policy design, policy instruments and tools of public action; evidence-based public policy and the use of research and expertise for policy-making; and policy transfer, dissemination and policy learning. All approaches to public policy are welcome including new-institutionalism perspectives, the work inspired by the advocacy coalition framework, the punctuated equilibrium approaches, interpretive or argumentative approaches and others. There is no specific policy focus to this section, rather proposals for panels and papers are invited from any (sectoral) policy area except economic and gender policies.
