The Institute of Political Science at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg was founded in 1961 under the direction of Waldemar Besson. Today, the Institute covers all sub-disciplines of Political Science, such as Political Theory, International Relations and Comparative Politics. A special Erlangen feature is the strong focus on Area Studies (Middle East and Asia) and Human Rights/Human Rights Politics. In terms of teaching the Institute offers Bachelor and Master programs in Political Science and is part of several interdisciplinary Master programs such as the Human Rights Master or the Master in Middle Eastern Studies.
