2026 ECPR General Conference: Call for Panel Proposals

From the Standing Group on Migration and Ethnicity

Our ECPR Standing Group Migration and Ethnicity is seeking Panel Proposals for a Section on International Migration at the 2026 ECPR General Conference (8-11 September, Jagiellonian University, Kraków).

The Section seeks to bring together Panels that critically examine the evolving dynamics of international migration policies and practices from a comparative perspective, while also tackling the influence of social and political actors in shaping migration governance. Adopting an interdisciplinary lens and embracing diverse methodological approaches, the Section invites Panel proposals that focus on the different social, economic, political and/or legal facets of immigration, emigration, inclusion or return. For the 2026 ECPR General Conference, the Section of the Standing Group Migration and Ethnicity can include up to 10 Panels

Panel proposals may cover a wide range of themes related to international migration, including (but not limited to):

  • Emerging transformations in national and sub-national policymaking on immigration and integration;
  • Comparative perspectives on the evolution of diaspora policies;
  • The influence of governmental and non-governmental actors in shaping migration policy agendas;
  • New insights into migrants' inclusion in labour markers and access to essential services in areas such as healthcare, housing, and education;
  • Changing dynamics of transnational political mobilisation and claims-making;
  • Emerging patterns in citizenship acquisition;
  • Public attitudes towards international mobility;
  • Forced displacement;
  • Narratives of belonging in diverse societies;
  • The role of supranational institutions and international organisations in shaping migration governance.

Submission procedure: Panel Chairs wishing to contribute to this Section should submit their Panel proposals via email to Daniela Vintila (daniela.vintila@uliege.be) and Verena Wisthaler (verena.wisthaler@eurac.edu) by 5 November 2025.

Proposals should only include:

a. The name and institutional affiliation(s) of the Panel chair(s);

b. A tentative Panel title;

c. A Panel abstract of maximum 250 words.

At this stage, there is no need to provide details regarding the papers to be included in each Panel. A formal Call for full Panels and individual paper proposals will follow at a later stage (from 18 November 2025 to 5 January 2026), upon acceptance of our Standing Group's Section proposal.
