About

Sassan Gholiagha received his undergraduate degree in social science and his postgraduate degrees in political science from the University of Osnabrück (Germany). He also holds an MA on Diplomacy, Law, and Global Change from Coventry University (United Kingdom). Between 2010 and 2016 he worked as a researcher at the Chair of Political Science, especially Global Governance (Prof. Antje Wiener) at the University Hamburg. Here he held various positions, amongst them as the Managing Editor of Global Constitutionalism. In 2016 he graduated with a PhD from the University of Hamburg with a thesis on “The Humanization of international relations – Prosecution, Protection, and Killing”. A book based on the thesis will be published with Cambridge University Press in 2022. Sassan taught and researched as a postdoc at the University of Hamburg between 2016 and 2017. In July 2017 he joined the WZB Berlin Social Science Centre where he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in a German Research Foundation (DFG) funded project on norm collisions. After teaching a semester at the Technical University Braunschweig at the Institute of International Relations he is now a postdoctoral researcher at the European New School of Digital Studies at the Europa-Universität Viadrina (Frankfurt(Oder), Germany). Here he works as a researcher in a project at the intersection of artificial intelligence/machine learning and International Relations Theory. His research interests are: norms research, the Responsibility to Protect, Drones, Constructivism, Feminism, as well as interpretivist methodology and methods. He has published his work in the Journal of International Political Theory, the International Journal of Human Rights, Global Constitutionalism, the Zeitschrift für Internationale Beziehungen as well as in several edited volumes.
