Our Standing Group on Extremism and Democracy is thrilled to present the 5th edition of its Summer School focusing on the study of the far–right in its radical, populist, and extremist manifestations. The programme is crafted to deepen your understanding of the theoretical, empirical, and methodological frameworks that underpin contemporary far-right politics.

About

Since 2018, the biennial Summer School on Concepts and Methods for Research on Far-Right Politics, supported by the ECPR Standing Group on Extremism and Democracy, has established itself as a key international training initiative.

Bringing together leading international experts and early-career researchers, this Summer School offers a unique space for advanced theoretical and methodological learning. It provides a comprehensive conceptual and methodological toolkit for studying the far right in its diversity, encompassing established parties, social movements, and a range of manifestations, from populist to extremist.

Across the five-day programme, you will be introduced to foundational theories of far-right mobilisation and performance, and learn to apply a wide range of empirical methods, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches.

The Summer School equips you to investigate far-right politics across time, arenas, and contexts. It strengthens the capacity of new generations of scholars to produce rigorous, comparative, and interdisciplinary research, contributing to cumulative knowledge and methodological pluralism in the field.

  • Two keynote speeches
  • Six classes on the main theories and methods for the study of far-right politics
  • Two roundtables to explore the key challenges in the field
