University of Innsbruck

The fifth largest city in Austria, Innsbruck has been a hub of European politics and culture since the fifteenth century. The city’s University celebrated its 350th Anniversary in 2019, and since being founded in 1669 has grown to become a significant driving force for the social and economic development of Tyrol.

With roughly 28,000 students and 5,000 employees, the University of Innsbruck is now the largest and most important research and education institution in western Austria.

Marcelo Jenny
Professor of Austrian Politics in European and/or Comparative Perspective

Marcelo Jenny studied political science and journalism and communication science at the University of Vienna (Mag. 1994). After several years working in survey research (SORA, Vienna), he completed his doctoral studies in political science at the University of Mannheim (2009).

Lore Hayek
Assistant Professor of Austrian Politics and Civic Education

Lore Hayek holds a PhD degree in Political Science from the University of Innsbruck and an MSc in Social Research Methods from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Lore’s research focuses on electoral campaigning and political advertising as well as political media coverage, applying quantitative methods such as manual and automated content analysis. She currently heads a research project on political crisis communication.

David Willumsen
Assistant Professor on Parliamentarism and Political Parties in a Comparative Perspective

David Willumsen is Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Parliamentarism and Political Parties in a Comparative Perspective. Previously, he was Interim Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Konstanz, and a Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of Innsbruck and at LMU Munich. He holds a PhD from the European University Institute, Florence, an M.Sc. and a B.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and has been a visiting PhD researcher at ETH Zurich.

His thesis has been published under the title The Acceptance of Party Unity in Parliamentary Democracies (Oxford University Press), and he has published research articles in journals such as Electoral Studies, European Journal of Political Research, European Union Politics, Journal of European Public Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, Party Politics, and West European Politics....more

Sven Jeschke
Assistant to the Dean at the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences

Sven Jeschke studied political science and international economics at the Universities of Innsbruck and Limerick (Ireland) and received his doctorate in political science from the University of Innsbruck in 2017. He is a certified Tyrolean Apprentice Trainer.

Sven is also the contact person at the faculty for congress organisations. He has previously organised several major congresses, including the 3-Nations-Conference of Political Science 2013, the ECPR Graduate Conference 2014 and the Austrian Sociology Congress 2015...more

Tobias Antensteiner
Student Assistant and Master’s degree student in Software Engineering and Secondary Education

Marco Achhorner
Student Assistant and Master’s degree student in Political Science: European and International Politics and MSc Organization Studies

Marco Achhorner has already been employed in various (assisting) positions at the University of Innsbruck. Previously, he also worked for the Austrian Embassy in Berlin and in a management position for the City of Innsbruck, among others.
