Kraków John Paul II International Airport (also known as the Balice Airport) is a 20–30 minute drive from both the city centre and the conference venue, depending on traffic.
The regional SKA1 train provides a convenient and reliable connection between Kraków Airport and the city centre. The journey to Kraków Główny (the Main Railway Station) takes approximately 20 minutes, and trains run throughout the day at regular intervals. From Kraków Główny, visitors can continue to Jagiellonian University on foot, by tram, or by bus, depending on the specific campus or building they are heading to. Ticket machines are available both at the airport station and on the platform. For schedules, fares, and travel details, please visit their website.
You can also travel by taxi, Uber, or Bolt. Travel time is typically around 25–30 minutes, although it can be longer during peak hours. Official airport taxis operate with fixed pricing zones, but rideshare services such as Uber and Bolt are also widely used in Kraków and may provide competitive fares (approximately 50 PLN).
Kraków’s public transport system is extensive and reliable, using buses and trams to connect most parts of the city. For up-to-date timetables, you can consult the official MPK Kraków schedule or plan your journey using e-Podróżnik, which allows you to check routes and connections easily.
Tickets can be purchased at vending machines located at many bus and tram stops. Please note that tickets are no longer sold directly by bus or tram drivers, so it is essential to obtain one before boarding. Tickets must be validated immediately using the machines located near the doors upon entering the bus/tram. Ticket inspectors regularly check compliance, and failure to validate may result in a fine.
For the most current pricing and additional information on ticket types, please refer to the MPK Kraków ticket page.
The official currency in Poland is the Polish złoty (PLN). While some businesses may accept Euro, it is generally best to use złoty for most transactions. Exchange offices, known as kantor in Polish, are common around the city center and often offer better rates than hotels. ATMs are widely available and accept most international debit and credit cards, usually providing favorable exchange rates.
Card payments are generally convenient, but it is also helpful to carry some cash for small purchases or local markets.
