Rafik Arfaoui is a Postdoctoral researcher at GRITIM-UPF, Universitat Pompeu Fabra. He works on the research project "BROAD-ER: Bridging the Migration and Urban Studies nexus". His main research interests deal with the reconfigurations of urban and rural spaces by the reception of asylum seekers and refugees' narratives, practices, and policies.

Rafik holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Clermont Auvergne, France (PhD dissertation entitled "Multiple territories, plural reception. Social geography of the reception of asylum seekers in non-metropolitan areas"). He is also a fellow at the French Collaborative Institute on Migration. Rafik has as 5 years’ experience of teaching Geography and Urban Planning in several French universities.

Daniel Auer is a senior researcher at the University of Bern, Switzerland and fellow at the University of Mannheim’s Center for European Social Research, Germany. Prior, he studied Political Science and Economics in Vienna, Urbana-Champaign, and Zurich before receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Lausanne. He was also postdoctoral researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center and visiting researcher in Malmoe and Oxford.

In his research, Daniel focuses on discrimination- and policy-driven mechanisms that affect political participation and socio-economic integration, and on investigating drivers of migration. He applies longitudinal registry data as well as large-scale field experiments and representative surveys in Europe, West-Africa, and the Middle East. He published in leading international journals in Political Science, Economics, and Sociology.

Pau Baizán Muñoz is ICREA Research Professor at Pompeu Fabra University. His research focuses on the interrelationship between family processes and migration, assortative mating, and on how labor market changes influence fertility and migration. He participated in several research projects, including 'Migrations between Africa and Europe', in which he coordinated the surveys in Spain. He is editorial board member of the International Journal of Population Studies, and was member of the International Advisory Board of NCCR – On the move between 2019 and 2022.

His recent publications include 'Does Emancipation Matter? Fertility of Chinese International Migrants to the U.S. and Non-Migrants during China’s One-Child Policy Period' 2021. International Migration Review 55 (4): 1029-1060, and 'When are migrant networks important? A comparison of the role of networks in Mexico-US and Senegal-Europe migration flows' (forthcoming).

Jørgen Carling is Research Professor of migration and transnationalism studies at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) and Co-Director of the PRIO Migration Centre. He holds a PhD in human geography. His research addresses a broad range of themes including migration theory, transnationalism, migrant remittances, and the links between migration and development. Among his most influential work is the analysis of aspiration and ability in international migration, and the associated phenomenon of involuntary immobility.

He currently leads the H2020 project Aligning Migration Management and the Migration–Development Nexus (MIGNEX) and the ERC Consolidator Grant project Future Migration as Present Fact (FUMI). He has published more than fifty scientific articles, book chapters and reports, and been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford, the National University of Singapore, and the University of Maastricht and UNU-MERIT United Nations University.

Ernesto Castañeda is an Associate Professor of Sociology at American University in Washington, D.C., and Founding Director of the Immigration Lab. He is the author of Building Walls: Excluding Latin People in the U.S. (Lexington Books 2019), A Place to Call Home: Immigrant Belonging and Exclusion in New York, Paris, and Barcelona (Stanford University Press 2018), Social Movements 1768–2018 with Charles Tilly and Lesley Wood (Routledge 2020), and Immigration Realities with Carina Cione (Forthcoming with Columbia University Press).

He has written for The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Hill, CityLab, and National Public Radio and is a frequent guest on France24, Telemundo, Univision, and NTN24.

Christina Clark-Kazak is Associate Professor at the University of Ottawa. She previously served as President of the International Association for the Study of Forced Migration (IASFM); President of the Canadian Association for Refugee and Forced Migration Studies; and Editor-in-chief for Refuge: Canada’s Journal on Refugees.

She wrote the first code of ethics on research in migration contexts, in Canada and then for IASFM. Her work is published or forthcoming in 14 peer-reviewed articles, 15 book chapters, 3 sole-authored books and 6 edited volumes. She holds a doctorate from Oxford, a master’s from Cambridge and a BA from the University of British Columbia. Prior to becoming a full-time academic, Christina worked for the Canadian government.

Guy Drudi is currently preparing a doctoral thesis in applied human sciences (University of Montreal) on discourse about discrimination in the Bouchard-Taylor Commission on Religious Accomodations. Since 2013, he has collaborated with the Laboratory for Research on Intercultural Relations (LABRRI) at the University of Montréal on various research projects relating to immigration and intercultural relations. He coordinated a research team on leisure and the integration of immigrants in Quebec and he has given numerous academic presentations on his research.

He is the author of several training courses and for many years taught on the topics of diversity management, employment equity and intercultural communication at the University of Montreal. He has published numerous articles on participation, discriminatory shock, racial profiling and is the recipient of several prizes, including the Médaille du Lieutenant-Gouverneur du Québec (2015).

Franck Duvell is senior researcher at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (Osnabruck University), Research Associate at DeZIM (Berlin), Senior Advisor at PICUM (Brussels), Steering Committee member at SEESOX (Oxford) and director of the Turkey Migration Studies network (TurkMiS). Previously, he was head of the migration department at the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research, Berlin (2018-2020) and associate professor at the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society, University of Oxford (2013-2018).

He has over 25 years of experience in conducting and leading research. He conducted more than 25 qualitative or mixed-method projects on international migration and has published 10 books and over 60 research articles.

Dirk Gebhardt is an associate lecturer at GRITIM-UPF and a trained urban geographer (PhD from Humboldt-University Berlin, 2009). He is also director at MigrationWork, a not-for-profit consultancy supporting mutual learning between European cities on reception and integration policies. His most recent academic work is on local integration policies and city networks.

Carmen Geha is recipient of the Maria Zambrano, Spanish government award, for international scholarly talent. She is a senior researcher at GRITIM-UPF, Pompeu Fabra University. Carmen is working on a transnational research project analyzing political mobilizing by migrant women and refugees from the Arab region. Prior to GRITIM-UPF, she was tenured Associate Professor of Public Administration and Leadership at the American University of Beirut (AUB)..

Carmen has received the Fullbright award as a visiting scholar at Harvard University, the Mellon Grant as a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study, and the Brown International Research grant at the Watson Institute in Brown University.

Leila Hadj Abdou is Part-Time Assistant Professor at the Migration Policy Centre at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute and Policy Officer in the Department of Integration and Diversity of the City of Vienna. She has widely published on the governance of migration and migrant integration.

Among her latest journal publications are 'Exploring the EU’s Status Quo Tendency in the Migration Policy Field: a Network-Centred Perspective', Journal of European Public Policy 2022 (with A. Pettrachin), and the book 'Migration and Mobility in the European Union' (Palgrave 2020, with A. Geddes and L. Brumat).

Albert Kraler is Assistant Professor in Migration Studies at the Department for Migration and Globalization at Danube University Krems (Austria). He has a PhD in Political science from the University of Vienna. Before joining Danube University Krems, he was a researcher at the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) in Vienna.

Albert’s research focuses on migration governance, migration policy making, and effects of migration policies on migrants themselves. He also worked on the situation of migrants in countries affected by violent crises or natural disasters, asylum and refugee policies in the EU and globally, quantitative dimensions of irregular migrants, family migration and policies, and migration statistics and data collection.

Abdeslam Marfouk is lecturer and Scientific Associate at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University of Liege (Belgium). He is also member of the editorial board of The Journal of International Development and Geografia-Malaysian Journal of Society and Space. He holds a Ph.D. in Economic from the University of Lille, France. He was guest scholar at the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies (CCIS), University of California, San Diego and the Institute of Study of International Migration (ISIM), Georgetown University.

His research focuses on international migration in developing countries, brain drain, the impact of international migration on origin and destination countries, and attitudes towards immigration. His work has been published with prestigious international journals and publishers.

Nena Mocnik is Maria Skłodowska Curie EUTOPIA-SIF COFUND Postdoctoral Fellow and a first Digital Humanism Fellow (awarded by Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action and IWM Vienna). As a researcher, educator and community worker, she is interested in the topics of collective traumas, identity (gender) violence, and art-based sociotherapy.

She is the author of two monographs 'Trauma Transmission and Sexual Violence: Reconciliation and Peace building in Post-Conflict Settings', (2021) and her first book 'Sexuality after War Rape: From Narrative to Embodied Research' (Routledge 2017) was awarded Bank of Montreal Award in Women's Studies (University of Ottawa, 2018). In her current participatory action research, she explores the rapidly expanding internet and digital realms to offer solutions in reproductive health-related knowledge and community support to refugee mothers in displacement.

Mireille Paquet is a political scientist conducting research on immigration policy and politics in Canada, North America and Australia. She is interested in how political institutions and bureaucracies affect the content of immigration policy and the role of these institutions in immigration politics.

Her current projects focus on the new politics of immigration in Canada, the role of immigration departments in contemporary immigration debates and parties' positioning immigration. She is based at the Concordia University Research Chair on the Politics of Immigration. She leads the Équipe de recherche sur l'immigration au Québec et ailleurs (ÉRIQA) and collaborates on the Initiative de recherche sur l'immigration (IRI).

Pau Palop-García is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM Institut) and a Research Associate at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA). In the past years, he has also been a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy, University of Erfurt.

Pau holds a PhD in Political Science from the Free University of Berlin. He specializes in the study of migration policies and the political representation of migrants and has published widely about these topics in journals such as Democratization, Citizenship Studies, Comparative Migration Studies, Citizenship Studies, and the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies.

Roberta Perna works at Department of Political Science and Sociology of Complutense University in Madrid (Spain). Prior to that, she was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie post-doctoral researcher at the University of Liege, Juan de la Cierva post-doctoral researcher at the Spanish National Research Council, and researcher at the Forum for International and European Research on Immigration.

She holds a PhD in Political Sociology from the University of Turin. She is member of the Steering Committee of the ECPR Standing Group Migration and Ethnicity and is particularly interested in comparative migration and healthcare policies and politics, EU policies and social citizenships, as well as on the role of bureaucracy in migration control.

Steffen Pötzschke is a postdoctoral researcher and deputy team leader of the GESIS Panel in the department of Survey Design and Methodology at the GESIS – Leibniz-Institute for the Social Sciences (Germany). He is also corresponding member of the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (University of Osnabrück, Germany).

Steffen is a founding member and co-coordinator of the IMISCOE Standing Committee Methodological Approaches and Tools in Migration Research (Meth@Mig). He holds a PhD from the University of Osnabrück. He initiated and participated in several migration research projects, which helped him to acquire profound practical knowledge in designing and implementing cross-cultural surveys. In his recent research, he investigates the possibility of using social networking sites as tools to sample hard-to-reach populations, including migrants.

Parvati Raghuram is Professor in Geography and Migration at the Open University. She published widely on retheorising migration of international students and skilled migrants and on responsibility and care. She is currently leading a grant on decolonisation of education as a pedagogical challenge in interdisciplinary and intercontinental research.

She has co-authored Gender, Migration and Social Reproduction (Palgrave), The Practice of Cultural Studies (Sage), Gender and International Migration in Europe (Routledge) and co-edited South Asian women in the diaspora (Berg) and Tracing Indian diaspora: Contexts, Memories, Representations (Sage). She co-edits the Palgrave Pivot series Mobility and Politics with Martin Geiger and Nicola Piper.

Justyna Salamońska is Associate Professor at Kozminski University, Department of Management in Networked and Digital Societies. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Trinity College Dublin. She previously carried out research and taught at Trinity College Dublin, European University Institute, University of Chieti-Pescara and University of Warsaw.

Justyna works on contemporary migrations and cross-border mobilities in Europe using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Currently, she serves as the PI on two research projects on multiple migrations, MultiData and MULTIMIG, financed by the National Science Centre Poland. She was also a Polish team leader on research projects in the area of migration and posting of workers, financed by the European Commission (under Horizon2020 and EaSI programmes). She coordinates the IMISCOE Standing Committee Methodological Approaches and Tools in Migration Research (Meth@Mig).

Peter Scholten is Full Professor in the Governance of Migration and Diversity at Erasmus University Rotterdam. His work focuses amongst others on science-politics relations in the field of migration and diversity, on the dynamics of policymaking on migration and diversity and on urban migration governance.

Peter is also research director of the department of Public Administration and Sociology, academic director of the inter-university LDE research center GMD, and alliance coordinator of the European University of Post-Industrial Cities.

Gunjan Sondhi is a Lecturer in Geography at the Open University (UK). Her research focuses on the interplay between gender, class, education and migration/mobility. This work has stretched across South and Southeast Asia, North America and the UK/EU.

Jasper Tjaden is Professor for Applied Social Research and Public Policy at the Department of Economic and Social Sciences at the University of Potsdam (Germany). He obtained his PhD in Quantitative Sociology from the University of Bamberg, the City University of New York, and the Minnesota Population Centre. Previously, Jasper worked for the International Organization for Migration’s Global Migration Data Analysis Centre, the World Bank, and the Migration Policy Group.

His research focuses on migration, migrant integration, discrimination, educational inequality, and quantitative research methods.

Monica Varsanyi is Professor of Geography and Associate Provost and Dean at the CUNY Graduate Center; Professor of Political Science at John Jay College, CUNY; and faculty in the International Migration Studies MA Program at the CUNY Graduate Center. She is a scholar of migration, membership, and the state, with a specific focus on immigration federalism in the United States. Her books include 'Taking Local Control: Immigration Policy Activism in U.S. Cities and States (Stanford University Press, 2010, edited volume) and Policing Immigrants: Local Law Enforcement on the Front Lines (with Doris Marie Provine, Scott Decker, and Paul Lewis; University of Chicago Press, 2016).

Her current research explores the nativist roots of voter disenfranchisement in the United States, as well as immigration federalism during the Great Depression. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities.

Daniela Vintila is Associate Coordinator and Senior Network Officer of IMISCOE (the largest interdisciplinary research network in the field of migration) at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University of Liège. She is also Maître de Conférences at CEDEM and chair of the ECPR Standing Group Migration and Ethnicity and of the IPSA Research Committee RC03 European Unification.

Daniela is currently involved in two EU-funded projects: ‛Social Inclusion and Access to Basic Services of Third-Country Nationals’ (AccessIN) and ‛Mobile EU Electorates and Democratic Participation’ (MOBILEU). She holds a PhD in Political Science from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Her interests lie, especially, in the areas of comparative politics, EU citizenship, international migration, political participation and representation, and social protection policies.

Bob W. White is Full Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Montreal in Canada and director of the Laboratory for Research on Intercultural Relations (LABRRI). Since 2012, he has led a multi-sectoral research partnership on the dynamics of inclusion in Montreal and he is the coordinator of the Quebec-based Network of Municipalities on Immigration and Intercultural Relations (RÉMIRI).

He has published numerous articles and books on pluralism, systems theory, public policy, and intercultural dynamics in cities. He has been visiting professor at the École des hautes études en sciences in Paris, the University of Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, the Max Planck Institute in Göttingen and Meiji University in Tokyo.

Verena Wisthaler is a political scientist studying the politics of migration. She is particularly interested in how migration politics plays out at the regional and local level. She directs the research groups “Politics and Actors in Societal Conflicts” and “Migrations and Diversities” at Eurac Research.

She is also member of the Steering Committee of the ECPR SG Migration and Ethnicity and collaborates with colleagues from various universities and research centers worldwide. She teaches courses on political science at various universities, such as the University of Innsbruck and Vienna (AT), Science Po – Campus Menton (FR) and Université de Neuchâtel (CH).

Ricard Zapata-Barrero is Full Professor in the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona (Spain). His main research lines focus on contemporary issues of liberal democracy in contexts of diversity, especially the relationship between democracy, citizenship, and immigration. He conducts theoretical and empirical research on migration and in the Mediterranean area.

He is the Director of GRITIM (Interdisciplinary Research Group on Immigration) and of the MA Program in Migration Studies at UPF. He is a member of the Board of Directors of IMISCOE and chair of the External Affairs Committee.
