Abstract

Recent inquiries into the geopolitical implications of the transition to sustainable energy systems have led to several expectations, including large shifts in energy security dynamics for exporter and importer countries. The academic underpinnings of these, however, are relatively weak. Indeed, our understanding of energy geopolitics has been built upon analyses of fossil fuels and whether developed insights and methods suitable for understanding renewable or 'whole systems' energy analysis is unclear. To address this matter, this panel brings together conceptual and theoretical works to discuss how we can better study, understand and predict the geopolitical implications of sustainable energy transitions.
