Abstract

The global energy transition implies both opportunities and risks for countries in the Global South. On the one hand, new energy technologies offer opportunities for leapfrogging into a low-carbon economy. On the other hand, constrained capital markets and economies based on the exploitation of fossil-fuel resources could mean that countries are left behind in the ongoing clean energy race. Against this background this panel brings together papers that explore and unpack the political economy of accelerating energy development in the Global South.
