While deliberative processes are argued to be able to identify the correct solution (Min & Wong 2018, Talisse 2009, Goodin 2017), quality and availability of information can challenge this ability (Brown 2019, McKay& Tenove 2020). This panel revisits epistemic debates within deliberative democracy and focuses on possible solutions to distorted information in deliberative systems. Papers within this panel focus on different elements of deliberative systems and analyse their possible role in countering the effects of disinformation, conspiracy theories and fake news. Several papers focus on concrete settings: experimental mini-publics in the US and Ireland, bottom-up popular assemblies in Chile, deliberative processes in the UK, and online participatory fora. Others focus instead on the possible power of rhetoric. The panel offers a selection of experimental, normative and practice-driven papers. Bibliography: • Brown, E.
