Abstract

The support, organization, implementation and participation in democratic innovations is influenced by social, ideological and contextual factors. Not all citizens are equally likely to organize and take part in democratic innovations. Similarly, those who implement DIs are not exempt from political and social biases which influence their evaluation of DIs. Finally, the concrete organization of democratic innovations (their goals and characteristics) also crucially impact their consequences on the political process and the identity of the participants. This panel investigates how contextual, social and ideological inequalities affect democratic innovations.
