Abstract

FAIR data are digital resources that are findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable by humans and machines alike. They embody emerging norms and standards about how to amplify the impact and integrity of the discipline’s research. FAIR data also enable the linking of diverse decentralized data resources, as for example by matching the party data from election archives, to national public opinion surveys, and to qualitative case-based resources. FAIR data can also be open data if ethical guidelines allow for it. This roundtable discusses the opportunities, obstacles, and objections to disciplinary investments in the development of an ecosystem of linked, FAIR, and open data.
