Keynote Conversation - Speakers will present their views on gender equality based on their professional and living experiences in different socio-economic systems and historical settings. As we are witnessing numerous anti-gender and anti-feminist attitudes and actions, we will discuss factors enabling these strong reactions. We will compare Western concepts of gender equality (or state feminism) with concepts in other parts of the world. We will discuss how is the gender backlash in line with backsliding of other democratic features of society. Joni Lovenduski PhD Prize - The Joni Lovenduski PhD Prize in Gender and Politics is awarded biennially for an outstanding PhD dissertation in the field of gender and politics, including gender and/or sexuality studies perspectives in political science, international relations, political philosophy, public policy and public administration. We will celebrate the 2021’s prize winner, Ashlee Christoffersen (University of Edinburgh). Ashley has been awarded the previous year's Prize for her thesis The politics of intersectional practice: Representation, coalition and solidarity. The thesis focuses on the under-researched area of equality NGOs and their interaction with the field of policymaking, and explores and compares the development and use of intersectionality, with reference to intersectionality theory and research.
