Abstract

This panel explores the intersection of transgender rights, healthcare, and societal perceptions across various contexts. It critically examines the experiences of TINQA* individuals within healthcare settings in Austria, highlighting both the discrimination faced and the efforts by healthcare providers to bridge knowledge gaps. The analysis extends to the United States, scrutinizing the regulation of exogenous hormones and its implications for gender identity confirmation and societal norms. The discourse around trans* athletes' participation in sports is dissected, revealing the nuanced understandings of fairness and discrimination and their impact on policy assessments. The panel also addresses the rise of anti-gender campaigns in Europe and the Americas, identifying the conditions that enable or impede the success of these campaigns against transgender rights. Lastly, it delves into the contentious debates surrounding the Portuguese law on self-determination of gender identity within the educational sector, underscoring the ongoing struggles for transgender rights. Collectively, these papers shed light on the complex realities faced by transgender individuals and the broader implications for public policy, social attitudes, and the fight for inclusivity and equality.
