The panel will present research on citizen participation and democratic innovations as well as transnational collaboration in addressing climate change, as these are increasingly being used in policy processes. On the one hand, citizen participation serves to legitimise government action; on the other hand, it encourages citizens to participate in creative and innovative solutions. Topics include the role of public administrators in shaping participatory processes, the legislative impact of citizens' climate assemblies, and collaborative efforts for sustainable regional transitions. Taken together, these studies provide insights into the potential of citizen participation and collaborations to inform and drive climate action at different levels of governance.
