Abstract

This roundtable discussion, within the Standing Group on (Anti)Corruption and Integrity, seeks to critically examine how corruption is currently taught in academic settings, addressing the gap between the rapidly evolving field and existing curricula. This event will convene experts from various disciplines to evaluate teaching practices and propose innovative, multidisciplinary approaches aligned with the latest developments in both theory and policy. Key objectives include evaluating existing curricula across different regions and disciplines, reflecting on how recent theoretical and policy shifts impact teaching methods, and discussing the effects of market-driven educational models. The roundtable will also explore ways to integrate diverse academic perspectives—such as political science, economics, law, sociology, and ethics—into corruption studies, enhancing the multidisciplinary approach that is crucial for comprehensive education in this field. The structure of the roundtable will feature brief presentations from 4-6 speakers from academia, policy, and education sectors, focusing on specific issues such as current trends in corruption studies within academic curricula, the gap between theory and practice, and the challenges posed by the commercialization of education. These talks will set the stage for a dynamic, participatory dialogue among attendees, facilitated by a moderator who will ensure the session remains focused and productive. Targeted at educators, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and students involved in corruption and integrity studies, this roundtable aims to foster an exchange of experiences and best practices. It hopes to spur collaboration on developing and disseminating innovative teaching methods and resources. Expected outcomes of this roundtable include a consolidated understanding of the current challenges and state of corruption education, and actionable recommendations for curriculum enhancement. The event seeks to increase awareness among participants of these issues and encourage the development of practical solutions to improve how corruption and integrity are taught in today’s changing landscape.
