Abstract

Considering the complexity and multidimensional levels of Anticipatory Studies approaches and fields, through this panel we intend to advance the research of theoretical and empirical studies and bring new insights to the following question: How can we improve research in Political Science, through the perspective of Anticipatory Studies, considering the fields of Political Communication and Political Discourse? Additionally, in this panel, we intend to consider several other different fields of study, in connection with the above, namely media coverage of wars and conflicts, Propaganda, Political Marketing, Media and Mass Communication Theories and Studies, Artificial Intelligence and Social Media Studies. Based on the development and eventual interconnection between these different fields and Political Science, considering the anchor of Anticipatory Studies, we intend to apply Anticipatory Studies research to different areas and methodological perspectives, from quantitative to qualitative studies. 1. How can Political Communication and Political Discourse play an anticipatory political role? Political Communication and Political Discourse allow for a wide range of approaches, as they intersect with multiple domains of Political Science including online social networks, media studies, wartime news coverage, artificial intelligence, new technologies methods contact with voters and communities, to name just a few. Because they are cutting-edge areas, requiring permanent research, and because they are the scene of rapid changes and updates from a technological point of view, we consider that they should be observed through the prism of Anticipatory Research studies. Therefore, in this section we welcome both theoretical and empirical studies, allowing us to explore new perspectives on practice in terms of Political Communication, considering discursive, media, technology and social networks online, to list the most prominent ones, under the anchor of Anticipatory studies. Political Communication is a conventional area of study in Political Science. Through the perspective of Anticipation studies, we aim to provide a political anticipatory approach about this field. The use of methodological, conceptual and theoretical tools, is expected, which will allow us to examine, observe and conceptualize the extent to which Political Communication and mediated Political Discourse constitute tools from the point of view of developing strategies to strengthen political power. To achieve the objectives proposed in this section we have the following questions: Q1. What to expect from political power, from an Anticipatory Perspective, as a strategic alternative in political and electoral options, taking into account the multiple challenges in terms of political competition between democratic and non-democratic responses? Q. 2. How to conceptualize the new democratic options outlined by political forces in the electoral arena, to respond to the new challenges of populism and extremism? Q. 3. How does media coverage expose and direct strategic options from the point of view of supply and political and/or electoral options? Q. 4. What is the role of the press and media coverage in times of war and conflict, in an Anticipatory perspective? Q. 5. How can the message on social media networks be a strategic element from a democratic and non-democratic point of view, and what is the degree of involvement of political forces and the population in this media context? Q. 6. How can IA tools be a turning point in terms of political mobilization and voting?
