Abstract

This panel examines, from diverse perspectives, the normativity of international institutions. The focus is, first, on the normative frameworks that underpin international institutions, and ground states’ commitment, and, second, on challenges arising from political contestation, global crises, and new regulatory issues. Topics addressed range from fundamental issues of authority, responsibility, and legitimacy to the challenges of maintaining democratic legitimacy in the face of technological advances like AI-driven public decision-making. The contributions are united by the search for ways to adapt international institutions to current global challenges.
