Abstract

This panel discusses intersectionality in conjunction with queer theory and queer politics. More precisely, it explores how intersectionality shapes contemporary queer mobilizations, acknowledging the specific challenges faced by trans and racialized activists, and emphasizing the radical and creative acts of resistance within queer activist communities in Europe and beyond. Papers in this panel provide both theoretical and empirical insights on radical expressions of queer activisms. They show how artistic and cultural practices play a crucial role in contemporary queer resistance – whether through migrant drag performances, which contribute to reimagining queer migrants’ subjectivities and political agency, or through queer-feminist activist-amateur football communities that disrupt exclusionary sports cultures. This panel addresses intersectional queer struggles as sites of both contestation and radical transformation, and explores the practices and experiences of contemporary intersectional queer activisms – namely, how activists organize, perform, and create spaces of belonging and defiance despite rising opposition.
