Speaker: Dr Hillary Briffa, King's College London This talk will examine the challenges and opportunities in the pursuit of inclusive interdisciplinary teaching, taking the summer programmes delivered by the academic chairs in the Climate Hub of Circle-U (an Erasmus+ alliance of nine research-intensive European Universities funded by the European Commission) as case studies. These programmes have the dual mission of tackling some of the world’s greatest challenges, from an interdisciplinary perspective. Yet, interdisciplinary work results in a range of challenges to overcome diverse 1) disciplines; 2) language barriers; and 3) institutional/national cultures, among others. This session will therefore evaluate the summer programmes as a means of exploring these broader themes concerning interdisciplinary teaching and learning. Despite the many challenges, the presentation will also foreground some of the exciting opportunities for problem-based learning and interdisciplinarity that can emerge if inclusion is successfully achieved.
