In recent years, scholarship in International Relations has increasingly turned to the study of the bureacuracies of International Organizations (IO). Being an actor in their own right, IO administrations can wield substantial influence over policy making, implementation, and legitimacy of international institutions. This panel explores the role and influence of IO bureaucracies on a variety of outcomes, such as international peace and security, the generation of knowledge and expertise, or on how IO staff copes with new technological and political challenges. The panel includes contributions from different conceptual backgrounds that employ diverse social science methods.
