Abstract

The panel „Frame Building and/or Framing Effects“ investigates political communication by focusing on frames because public opinion and political decisions depend crucially on information / news stereotypes, or what today are called frames. Since, in our diverse society, the media plays a vital role in conveying frames from the political actors to the public, processes and factors that influence the creation or change of frames applied by journalists (frames in news media or media frames), i.e. “frame building” are highly important. Thus, papers analyzing frame building are very welcome. Second, the whole process of frame building would be irrelevant if media frames did not have an effect on citizens. This means that papers investigating framing effects are also very relevant. Framing effects have been defined as the effects of frames in communication on frames in thought. Research that integrates both, frame building and framing effects, might be rare but most appreciated.
