VAAs help voters make sense of the parties' policy offers by informing them about the match they have with various parties. To do this, they compare party and voter positions on a number of specific policy proposals. Since most VAA builders have an academic background their methods have been a continually debated. This panel welcomes papers that bear upon the broad topic of the validity and reliability of VAAs; that is, do they base their advice on a good representation of the policy space? Do the policy proposals (statements) conform to standard practice? What checks and balances are provided to avoid influence by political actors? Papers that tackle these concerns from a comparative perspective are especially welcome.
