Abstract

This panel is aiming at papers that deal with an innovative use of methods; quantitative, qualitative or mixed approaches. Innovative means using a method in a way in which it has not been used before or aim at a kind of data where it is not normally used. This is also including the use of methods to analyse data that stems form social media like Twitter or Facebook. Even though there is much insight in specific uses of methods for various areas there have been only a few approaches to directly work with social media sources. Innovative use of methods and their application to social media sources will not only give insight into these specific areas but can also lead to a better understanding of the used methods and probably new ways of using the methods for other purposes as well. Mixed methods approaches might also help to understand the underlying mechanism of effects that are not visible in purely quantitative or qualitative approaches. An other area of interest for this panel is the area of experimental methods. With this one can probably increase our understanding of behaviour which has often been ignored by political science.
