The educational potential of VAAs and their impact on political behaviour have recently attracted substantial academic attention. The popularity of these tools allows for the collection of unprecedented amounts of political behaviour data. However, the unique methods by which VAAs collect data make it difficult to perform analyses without first employing bias-correcting statistical treatments. This panel endeavours to bring together scholars using VAA data to study political (including electoral) behaviour. Discussions will involve examining different methods for data treatment, exploring possibilities for triangulating VAA data with data from other sources, and investigating the multiplicity of ways these innovative data can inform theory.
