Abstract

This panel focuses on the link between identity and mobilization from the perspective of naturalized migrants. In doing so, the panel wishes to address the following questions: What makes a person wish to become a national citizen and what role do naturalized migrants play in the making of national identity? Do citizens of immigrant origin engage in associations or in the political arena of their host countries? If so, what are their levels of political mobilization and to what extent their active engagement is influenced by their sense of affective identification with the countries of settlement?
