Abstract

Panelists will discuss and share their research on various aspects of the impact of transitional justice (TJ) measures upon democratic institution building in societies emerging from conflict and authoritarian rule. More specifically, the panelists will seek to identify whether, and if so how, such TJ mechanisms contribute to, or impede, democratic institution-building. Empirical, comparative country-based case studies are strongly encouraged, as are specific assessments studies of democratic institution-building and the rule of law. The chairs of this panel will also present ongoing findings of their current three-year research project on the inter-linkage of Transitional Justice measures and democratic institution building.
