Abstract

In last few years, societies in EU countries have been exposed to several problems which revealed many hidden aspects of way of governance as well as of nature of societies. This paper deals with the question, what is the role of populism (mainly in sense of voting for populist parties) in shaping attitudes towards the important events affecting people’s life nowadays. On the surface, it seems that people who were against covid measures just have moved to a camp against helping Ukraine with consequences of Russian invasion in any way. Using a data from 7 wave panel study conducted in the Czech Republic, we describe how strong the shift. Furthermore, we try to explain, what are the main factors driving people to anti-covid/Ukraine camp. Variables related to populism and populist values, political culture, relation to democracy and economic and life evaluations are used as independent variables.
